THE YEAR OF DRAGON
Chinese New Year is the most important of the
traditional Chinese holidays. In
China, it is known as "
Spring Festival," the literal translation of the Chinese name 春節 (
Pinyin: Chūnjié), since the
spring season in Chinese calendar starts with
lichun, the first
solar term in a Chinese calendar year. It marks the end of the winter season, analogous to the Western
Carnival. The festival begins on the first day of the first month (
Chinese:
正月;
pinyin:
Zhēngyuè) in the traditional Chinese calendar and ends with
Lantern Festival which is on the 15th day. Chinese New Year's Eve, a day where Chinese families gather for their annual
reunion dinner, is known as
Chúxī (除夕) or "Eve of the Passing Year." Because the
Chinese calendar is
lunisolar, the Chinese New Year is often referred to as the "
Lunar New Year". Chinese New Year is the longest and most important festivity in the Chinese calendar.

The dish is traditionally enjoyed by
Buddhist monks who are vegetarians, but it has also grown in popularity throughout the world as a common dish available as a vegetarian option in Chinese restaurants. The dish consists of various vegetables and other vegetarian ingredients (sometimes with the addition of seafood or eggs), which are cooked in
soy sauce-based liquid with other seasonings until tender. The specific ingredients used vary greatly both inside and outside Asia.
The
Mandarin orange, also known as the
mandarin or
mandarine (both lower-case), is a small
citrus tree (
Citrus reticulata) with fruit resembling other
oranges. Mandarin oranges are usually eaten plain or in fruit salads. Specifically reddish-orange mandarin cultivars can be marketed as
tangerines, but this is not a
botanical classification.
The tree is more drought-tolerant than the fruit. The mandarin is tender, and is damaged easily by cold. It can be grown in tropical and subtropical areas.
ANGPAU
In
Chinese and other
Asian societies, a
red envelope or
red packet (known as
hóngbāo in Mandarin,
Ang Pao in
Min Nan,
Lei See (利市/利是) in Cantonese,
Sae Bae Don (세뱃돈/歲拜돈) in Korean, and
Lì Xì in Vietnamese) is a monetary gift which is given during holidays or special occasion
TARIAN SINGA a.k.a LION DANCE
Lion dance (
simplified Chinese:
舞狮;
traditional Chinese:
舞獅;
pinyin:
wǔshī) is a form of traditional
dance in
Chinese culture, in which performers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume. The lion dance is often mistakenly referred to as
dragon dance. An easy way to tell the difference is that a lion is operated by two people, while a dragon needs many people. Also, in a lion dance, the performers' faces are covered, since they are inside the lion. In a dragon dance, the performers can be seen since the dragon is held upon poles. Basic lion dance fundamental movements can be found in most
Chinese martia
FIREWORKS
Firecrackers are usually strung on a long fused string so it can be hung down. Each firecracker is rolled up in red papers, as red is auspicious, with gunpowder in its core. Once ignited, the firecracker lets out a loud popping noise and, as they are usually strung together by the hundreds, the firecrackers are known for their deafening explosions that are thought to scare away evil spirits. See also
Myths above. The burning of firecrackers also signifies a joyful time of year and has become an integral aspect of Chinese New Year celebrations.
[24]The use of
firecrackers, although a traditional part of celebration, has over the years led to many unfortunate outcomes. There have been reported incidents every year of users of fireworks being blinded, losing body parts, or suffering other grievous injuries, especially during the Chinese New Year season. Hence, many governments and authorities eventually enacted laws completely banning the use of firecrackers privately, primarily because of safety issues.
